The Fire Department was created as a department of the Village of Schaumburg under Chapter 13 of the Village Code in 1966. The Department is administered by the Fire Chief who is appointed by the Village Manager.

The Fire Chief is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Department with staff support consisting of two Deputy Chiefs, three Battalion Chiefs, six Captains, and clerical/secretarial support. The Fire Chief is responsible for the supervision and coordination of Fire Department activities and functions within the 19 square miles of the Village plus mutual aid and tollway responses.

The administrative structure of the Fire Department consists of two Divisions, each under the supervision of a Deputy Chief. These Divisions are Operations and Administrative Services.
